2. La Mitad del Mundo
The "Middle of the World", about an hour outside QuitoTravelers come here to have their picture taken near where the equator was believed to have been in the 19th century. (See museum entry, below)

4. OtavaloA place that used to resemble an ancient aztec fleamarket is not very well known and is nice to go to to get all kinds of momentos made by local artisans.

5. Mercado artesanalin fron of the Hilton Colon, Quito, daily
Another great market if you don't want ot head out of town to get your souveniers, paintings, eather bags, religious statues and home decorations.

Museums & Zoos:


1. Intiñan Solar Museum
next to La Mitad del Mundo (see above)
According to GPS, the actual equator lies within a park called Intiñan Solar Museum (right next door to La Mitad del Mundo). The entry fee costs$2. Inside the park are hands-on experiments that help to demonstrate the effects of gravity on both the North and South sides of the equator, as well as directly on it. Recommend by Samantha!
2 Zoologico Guayllabambaabout 45 minutes outside of Quito
Big zoo. Fun for kids, they have pony rides etc... Lots of native species.

Quito (city at 9,000 feet above sea level)
One of the city's newest attractions, this aerial cable car ascends Pichincha Volcano all the way to the hill known as Cruz Loma, at 12,000 feet.
2 Malls - El Jardin, El Bosque, El QuicentroQuito
Shopping!! They have everything from local made crafts in artisan shops and locally made clothing to Escada or high end South American labels.

2 Futbol (Soccer)Anywhere with some grass
You might just want to go to the local parks and see the locals play each other. You can also catch games at the stadiums.
3 Tiro al blanco (shooting range, competitions)in most suburbs
They really go all out setting up for these competitions. The competitive groups usually go on a circiut of competitions. different leagues have different circuits. Bring earplugs.
