Top Ten Travel Experiences
1) Snorkeling in Tobago (my first time and I was in such awe of the fish that our guide took my hand and swam with me so I would keep up with the group).
2) Eating "shark and bake" (fried shark that's been marinated in lime juice and served on fresh baked bread) on a beach in Trinidad; then fallin asleep on the beach.
3) Riding the train from Schipol Airport in Amsterdam to Antwerp, Belgium, seeing the beauty of the countryside and doing a double-take when what I first thought were sheep turned out to be miniature horses.
4) Eating a "real" Belgian waffle in Brussels smeared with Nutela. Eating another one in Antwerp walking around and peering in windows at all of the diamonds in the jewelry stores there.
5)Staying on the same houseboat that Samantha stayed in on the Amstel River in Amsterdam which was featured on her Passport to Europe series.
6)Floating in the Pink Lake outside of Dakar, Senegal. It's pink because of the microorganisms in the water and it's impossible to sink because the salt content is so high.
7)Arriving at the Stazione Termini train station in Rome, starving, and asking the cab driver to take my partner and I to his favorite place to eat in Rome and being driven to a "not-so-nice" part of town to a very small family restaurant where we were treated just like family and fed until we couldn't move. Oh the prosecco, oh the freshly grilled shrimp, oh the linguini con vongale and homemade tiramisu....Grazie!
8)Being given a blessing by the priest at Sri Chimundaswari temple in Mysore, India on the day of the Hindu New Year.
9)Spending New Year's Eve in Paris at the Eiffel Tower, watching fireworks and drinking champagne and practicing saying "Bonne Annee!" (Happy New Year!)
10)Treating my mom and traveling with her on a trip to Italy for her birthday in 2004: Venice, Orvieto, Assisi and Rome where she got to see the Vatican and see and hear Pope John Paul II before his death.
