Know Before You Go
Tips for getting around:
One hot spot destination of Peru is the ancient Incan capitol of Cuzco and the city of Machu Picchu. You cannot land in Peru which is at sea level and then go immediately to Machu Piccu within 24 hours. You will need to stay in Cusco (pop. 319,000) and rest at least 24 hours prior to going to Machu Picho because of the high altitude so make sure you put room in your schedule to allow for that.
Immunizations needed (if any):
Travel documents needed (visas, etc):
Savvy traveler tips (safety, using the phones, local customs, etc):
The altitude in Cusco needs your attention.
There are many active volcanos.
Interesting fact:
If you've every played Trivial Pursuit, you'll remember that "Lake Titicaca" was the anwer to almost every question about lakes. "What is the highest navigatable lake in the world?" Lake Titicaca at 12,507 ft. It is also the largest lake in South America and the largest lake in the world above 6,500 feet.

My husband & I traveled to Peru two years ago mainly to visit the Incan Trail & Machu Pichu. What a trill as we road the zig-zag train through mountains along side the Incan Trail to visit the Machu Pichu ruins. On this day we experenced every thing weather wise from sunshine to clouds & some rain. The weather would change in mins. This was surely one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. It is a magical place with such interesting history.
Our entire trip in Peru was well worth the time --- so interesting ! This is a trip fpr people who love history & adventure. We highly recommend travel to this part of our world !!!! |
