I love Sam's show. Someone suggestted watching it to get ideas for my honeymoon and I've TiVo'd it ever since. I like that she speaks eloquently and slowly so you can understand everything. And I have to say Bravo for doing the Passport to Latin America. I think it's about time they got some TV play. They welcome our tourist $$ and I find south america to have everything I would want in a vacation. i go there for about a month every year, more if I have time. I am biased to ecuador b/c that's where my mom is from. So shout out to Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca & Loja!!! Can't wait to go back.

I take exception to the coment that "Americans (USA) are and will always be considered 'DUMB' individuals." The USA is made up of a myriad of people, from every walk of life, race, class, educational level and level of exposure to the world. It s narrow-minded to judge all of us based on a personal reaction to a statement one didn't like and obviously misinterpreted.
Certain parts of Latin America, e.g., Argentina, reminds one of Europe, particularly Italy because of the food, the cadence of Spanish and the infusion of Italian words into the everyday vernacular. To make a statement that one place is "like" another or "reminds" one of someplace else is not an insult, and I don't think Sam meant it as such. I believe she was speaking of the "exciting feeling" and that was the comparison she was making. I did not get the sense that she was saying that Latin America is just like Europe, merely pointing out similarities. I have traveled all over the world. I am an American and while I definitely noted and loved the differences in people, culture and the lands I've travelled to, I also noted so many similarities which is what people can build on in developing an understanding of the differences in our cultures. |
