"RU calling Samantha "DUDE"?"
Yes and you seem to have a problem with that.

"Dude" is a modern American colloquialism often used when addressing someone directly. According to Dictionary.com and most humans who are actively engaged and interacting with other humans on a regular basis, it can be associated with either sex. Frankly I'm surprised that a person who believes that the use of the letters "R" and "U" are an acceptable replacement for ACTUAL WORDS would be grammatically discriminating enough to find my greeting insulting in the first place.

I'm guessing you aren't the big-city type... am I right?

I live in Seattle, where I never heard any woman addressed as "dude". You could have simply explained that you use it differently where you come from. There was no need to attack anyone's intelligence or moral character. It makes you sound insecure. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I am insecure. So what.

The reality is that you asked "are you calling Samantha "DUDE"??? as if I were already some kind of jerk, so I'm not sure what response you expected exactly.

stop trolling.

By the way, I live in Seattle as well, which I suspect you somehow already knew. If you have not ever heard a woman or a girl or a lady for that matter addressed as DUDE, then you must have a hearing problem. Pay attention next time you're at Bumbershoot or Seafair... or on the metro... or at Westlake. Or at the Apple store at U Village.

The word DUDE has changed meanings over the course of time. It may have started out meaning a male person, but it now means various other things. In fact, in most cases, it's just an attention getter or pauser that means nothing, like the YOU KNOW of old. I had a teacher that once said it's just clucking. There's a commercial on TV where a guy at a ballgame narrates the whole commercial by just saying DUDE the whole time. Our language is going through reverse evolution. Soon we'll be grunting at each other. Later dude! Do you find this valuable?

you're totally right. The English language as we know it is going through another complete morph that is as distasteful to some of us as the transition from The Queen's English was to many before us. Do you find this valuable?
