Mystery At Kilkenny Castle!
Jun 12 2008, 3:02 AM EDT This is my story, toward the end of August of '04 a very good friend of mine had just returned from a trip to Ireland. She e-mailed me a very exciting, unusual story. She went on a tour of Kilkenny Castle in Kilkenny, Ireland and came across a painting of a woman that looked so much like me that it was too strange for words. Her words exactly, it really and extremely peaked my curiousity. Tourists are not allowed to take any pics inside the castle and she wasn't taking any notes. She doesn't remember what the woman's name was, but my friend(Martha)feels that I could be related to Anne Boleyn. The woman in the painting was a Lady of Court and she existed around the time of King Charles the II. But my friend also thinks that maybe she was Elizabeth Preston Duchess of Ormonde 17nth. century. I have always felt a very strong connection with England and Ireland and royalty, aristocracy. Both England and Ireland are filled with Butlers, I am a Butler by blood. I have e-mailed reliable sources, the Kilkenny Castle itself and I have been a member of The Butler Society for over a year now. I have often been told that the only way that I can solve this mystery is to travel to Ireland and go on a tour of Kilkenny Castle. View the paintings and portraits myself in order to find the painting of the young woman that looks so much like me. I do not know if or when I will be in the position to travel to Ireland one of the places that I would love to travel to someday. Or travel anywhere for that matter, I feel that this woman is someone that I could be related to. Or maybe I was this woman in a past life? I cannot let this go until this mystery is finally and officially solved. I have learned since this neverending search started for me that alot of people from Ireland, Irish settlers came to America and settled in West Virginia. I will appreciate any helpful advice that any of you can offer or give to me. Thank you. EmeraldPrincess 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jun 14 2008, 10:00 PM EDT FYI, many Celts settled in southern Va. as well. Check out Ancestry.com, you'll be on one of the best sites to research ancestry. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jun 15 2008, 12:52 AM EDT Hello Kwaichang! Thank you for being the first to reply to my thread! I really appreciate your insights and your advice, I have often heard of Ancestry.com. But have yet to venture onto their site to check them out. I will take your advice and see what their website is like, thanks. They now have a book available to buy through Amazon.com on each person's family last name and its history. Including mine, "Butler". I have been thinking about purchasing a copy. What do you think? Maybe we will talk again soon but if not then that's okay too. Thanks once again and have a great weekend! EmeraldPrincess Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Mystery At Kilkenny Castle!
Jun 15 2008, 10:29 AM EDT Always nice to talk to new people; I'll look forward to more posts. As for the book, many "common" names can be put into a book and it would give you a much broader picture of your family name, history of it, etc. However, the site will allow actual tracing of *your* family as it searches public records.
